To some of you this may not come as new news but to others who do not follow the Triple Crown this may be new. Most people have heard the story of the gallant and brave colt Barbaro. Who won the 2006 Kentucky Derby.
This morning at the New Bolten Centre the Jackson's decided to euthinize Barbaro. His state of health went down hill in the last few weeks and they have said that they would not let their colt be in pain.
It was a hard decision but I feel was right for him.
Our thoughts go his owners and everyone who loved him, fans alike.

He will be missed.

Does anyone know the owners final decision about burial? It's still sad to me.

Barbaro was a anomaly in our industry today. There are few thoroughbreds left that have that rare combination of beauty, heart and talent. He made his wins look effortless and had a heart that pushed him to stay alive as long as he did. It was shattering to hear the news that they had put him down, but I also realize that he was in pain. As much as I would have loved to see him survive, I would not do so at his expense. He was an inspiration to this great nation when we needed one the most.

hi,
I know how you feel my gelding is going to be 20 in may and is going into his last show season. It's going to be hard enough to find another one like him but he's never leaving us.
.
bye

Hi, I,m in australia and don't know a lot about this horse but I am involved in the TB industry here and realise the loss of a great horse is hard to overcome, I also have a favorite old horse of my own, an A.S.H gelding who at this moment is 31years old and on loan to a friends 6yr old little girl. he has been the best horse we have ever had, taking my girls to aust representative polocrosse, plus state level sporting and barrels and royal show level hacking as well as being a novice level campdrafter and attending the prince phillip mounted games with both of them in different years. when he leaves this earth it will be one of the worst days in our lives and we are all dreading it so on a somewhat different level I get how you all feel about this great horse.

Hi all. It was a sad day for the race world and horse lovers all over the world to hear about the passing of Barbaro. I too had to make that difficult decision last year when I had to put my old Quarter Horse Gelding down. It was like loosing a family member. My thoughts and prayers go to his owners and his fans. To Barbaro. Your life on Earth here was too short. You were brave and gallent to the end. May you R.I.P Barbaro.

Prayers for Mr & Mrs Jackson, his Jockey - Prado, his trainer and all the staff Penn Veterinary School... every little minor detail they did was for the love of Barbaro. Everyones hearts are broken.. it was a sad day... I just read that Churchill Downs has offered to lay him down to rest on the gardens of the Kentucky Derby Museum along with other winners - quote, "We've expressed to them how honored we'd be to have Barbaro here," Lynn Ashton, executive director of the museum, said. "We feel like we're bringing horses back to be honored."
